The Philippines is
in itself an archipelago, consisting of thousands of large and small
islands. Palawan is just one of those islands. In fact, the province
island has the most significant total land area in the whole country.
Because of its
geographic location and features, the most convenient and fastest way to
reach the tourist island is through air travel. From the national
capital of Metro Manila, Palawan’s capital city, Puerto Princesa City,
can be reached via an airplane usually within about an hour and five
minutes. National carrier Philippine Airlines is flying from the
domestic airport in Manila to the domestic air terminal in Puerto
Princesa at least once daily. During tourism peak seasons of summer and
Yuletide, the airline is raising daily flights from one to at least two
times a day.
Other major
Philippine commercial airlines Cebu Pacific and Air Philippines are also
facilitating daily flights on the route. There are other air flight
choices to choose from. Smaller carriers like Island Trans Voyager,
Asian Spirit and Sea Air are also facilitating commuter and chartered
flights from Manila to other major Palawan tourist hubs like Coron,
Cuyo, Culion, El Nido and Taytay. Thus, if you want to fly directly into
one of the Palawan points mentioned, you just need to book your air
flights in Manila.
Aside from taking
domestic flights to Palawan from Manila, you can also opt to take a
flight from other areas of the country. From the other busy and major
domestic airports in Cebu and Iloilo, there are Palawan air flights you
can take. Twice every week, there are flights in the route to Palawan’s
key tourist destinations. Expect to ride planes from Cebu or Iloilo to
Palawan for about an hour and a half.
Surely, Palawan is
moving to further and significantly improve its major terrestrial
tourism. However, the local provincial and national governments are
working hand in hand to build international airports in Palawan so that
international tourists can fly from where they are going to the island
province directly. Currently, there is a need to go to Manila, Cebu or
Iloilo first before vacationers can book air accommodations to Palawan.
Authorities and tourism experts believe that when international airports
are constructed and made operational, tourism in Palawan can further
increase.
Construction has
commenced in four proposed international airports in Palawan. While the
current air terminal in Puerto Princesa is undergoing modernization and
improvements, construction to build international airports in Coron, San
Vicente and Balabac have started. It is estimated that the airports will
be finished and be inaugurated by 2010. From then on, direct flights
from international routes can be facilitated to Palawan.
Flights from Cebu
are also starting to become more active and common. Cebu is aiming to
form a tourism partnership with Palawan so that the popular tourism
island province can serve as a channel and stopover for air flights
connecting Cebu and Malaysia, which is geographically closer to Palawan.
Do you aim to have a grand vacation? Book your
flights to Palawan now and make your holiday getaway more worthwhile and
fun.
