Cagayancillo belongs to the 6th class municipality, it is approximately 178 nautical miles (330 km) east of Puerto Princesa City and only 72 nautical miles (133 km) south-west of Antique. From the mainland in Puerto Princesa to Cagayancillo the trip will be around 5 hours. If you’re looking for a direct plane flight to travel nearer, you can book a flight to Ilo-ilo, Bacolod or Dumaguete. From the airports, you have to go to the port and ride in a boat.
There are no luxurious bars, restaurants and malls in the area but you’ll be amazed by the Spanish colonial design building which is now a public elementary school. There is also a fort in the area, it was built to protect and to warn locals for moro marauders that might go to the island and do piracy. The infrastructure began with the help of Father Nicolas Melo and Father Alonso Colosa in the 16th century but unfortunately it wasn’t completely finished. In the early 18 century, the construction was continued under Father Hipolito Casiano. The Fort was made of sea rocks that was mixed with lime and 162-sq. meter (1,740-sq. foot) diamond-shaped.
The municipality was the smallest among the others that belongs to the province of Palawan but still, it composed of 31 islands and islets which has been divided into 2 Sitio’s ( Cavili and Calusa) and 12 barangays. These barangays are Bantayan, Calsada, Convento, Lipot North, Lipot South, Magsaysay, Mampio, Nusa, Santa Cruz, Tacas, Talaga, and Wahig. The name Cagayancillo was a Spanish word that means “little Cagayan”.
