According to the latest report in this year February 11, there have been a total of 463 confirmed cases of HIV in Palawan. The total numbers from Puerto Princesa are on 264 while the other 199 came from different municipalities. To spread awareness, especially in the youths is a must.
The Pilipinas Shell Foundation Inc.(PSFI) had partnered with Amos Tara to offer free HIV Testing in Puerto Princesa. This will serve as a Valentines Special.
The Amos Tara is a community clinic located in Puerto Princesa that will cater the free HIV screening.
The PSFI Manager Ynna Doblado said "Ang Valentine’s Special ng Amos Tara ay naglalayon na maka-engganyo ng mga youth, adult, babae o lalake para malaman ang information tungkol sa HIV prevention," on the interview.
She also added "Sa mga kabataan na may sexual activity, sana alamin muna natin ang consequences ng ating gagawin lalo na pwedeng makakuha ng sakit sa pagkakaroon ng unprotected sex. Mas maganda na magpigil at ‘wag na muna kung hindi pa kasal pero kung hindi na napipigilan dapat at least alam natin how to be responsible,".
The kick off of the activity happened on February 11, the candidates for Miss Palawan 2021 were there to help on spreading the awareness on HIV prevention as one of their advocacy.
The Puerto Princesa Vice Mayor Maria Nancy Socrates was also there. She is an advocate that stands againsts the premarital sex and unprotected sex and said that this is the right time to work on this matter.
Human Immunodeficiency Virus is a virus that could cause immunodeficiency syndrome in time. In which it will weaken the immune system and could give higher risk for infections and other illnesses that can be transmitted through broken skin, wounds or mucus membranes, bloods, vessels, sexual contact, and syringes.
Aside from this, there are various activities will be held in four consecutive days.
On February 12, Friday (Friday Hugot Day) there will be Fun Games, Hugot Songs, Hugot Wall Contest, Balangaw "LGBTQ" The Rainbow of Love. The next day, Saturday (Saturday Find a Date) it will be spend with Board Games Contest, Kapare Who?, Bring a Friend to Tinder Date, and Videoke Hugot Songs.
On Sunday, as a Vantentine's Day Special, a gift shop will be opened, Meet the Hunky Volunteers, Blindate, Wedding Arrest, Live Accoustic Band, Open Mic Poetry.
But that's not just all. After the HIV screening, you'll avail the free photoshoot and make up. There will be photographers and make up artist that will get you ready for the day!
Through this activity, it will encourage the locals to have a free screening for HIV and enjoy at the same time. This is also a good step for the government and other foundations to create a solid, positive community, and an opportunity to spread the facts behind the rumors of the HIV.
