Palawan is known to have the most beautiful, scenic and wonderful heritage site. It is held as one of the visited places in the Philippines. As tourists come along into the island, they have to ride through vehicles, motorbikes, pump boats and airplanes to reach the destinations. By having this cruise port, it will be accessible.
The Cruise Port and Facilities is a P3.5 Billion project by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Office of Region 4B. This project belongs to the Build, Build, Build (BBB) Program under the term of President Rodrigo Duterte.
The project will consist of seven (7) phases and includes the construction of a 500-meter wharf, docking facility, passenger terminal and access to the road located at Barangay Mabuhay, Puerto Princesa.
DPWH Region 4B Director Wilfredo Mallari said, “Once completed, the Cruise Port Facility can accommodate up to 10,000 passengers,".
During the Partial Inauguration on March 6, it was attended by the City Mayor Lucilo Rodriguez Bayron, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar, Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade, Provincial Governor Jose Chavez Alvarez, 3rd District Representative Gil Acosta Jr. at 2nd District Representative Cyrille Beng Abueg-Zaldivar.
As of now, the phases from 1 and 4 are already done and the other phases are expected to finish in August this year.
City Mayor Lucilo Bayron said at the inauguration that this port will be accepting quantum cruises that carry thousands of tourists. The passengers would possibly explore the area upon their arrival. He also added that the government also plans to add a convention center, restaurants, and government facility in the area.
Meanwhile, DPWH Secretary Mark Villar said that the completion of the project will be around August 2021. This will be a helping hand for the local government to increase the tourism industry.
Transportation is important, as it allows exporting and importing products in an easier way. The Palawan island will also be more accessible to international tourists. Without proper transportation, the people wouldn't be able to visit the area.
The Cruise Port is expected to be on the list of international cruise destinations in the Philippines. The need of transportation in the sea and to enhance the tourism industry of Puerto Princesa had given the local government the courage to achieve this project.
Aside from being accessible to the tourism and city's industry, this will also help the locals to generate income. The port will be having job vacancies that can be given to the unemployed.
It is totally beneficial in different ways. It will help the residents and the neighboring municipalities to be explored and discovered by international tourists. It will give the tourists comfort in traveling and will also boost the economy that will lead the local government to build more establishments to give friendly, satisfying and enjoyable accommodations.
