Dr. Onda accepted the invitation from Caladan Oceanic for the expedition. He will be accompanied by Victor Vescovo, who was a record holder of the deepest manned descent on Marianas Trench in 2019.
The University of the Philippines Marine Science Institute released a statements on March 7 saying "“Deep sea expeditions like this one are equivalent to the first early flights into outer space, thus it would be a major record-setting scientific and historic achievement. To date, most of these records are held by foreign scientists or explorers. The Philippine Trench is a unique feature found within the EEZ of the Philippines, and it is only appropriate that a Filipino scientist be one of the first to hold this record in the Emden Deep."
They also added "Dr. Onda, as the sole Filipino researcher representing the country, will also be given a unique opportunity to be exposed to state-of-the-art vessels capable of deep-sea activities, which can enrich our experiences and knowledge as the Philippines builds its own National Academic Research Fleet (NARFleet),".
The Caladan Oceanic organized the Emden Deep in the Philippines Trench that was recorded to be the third deepest spot in the world. On the record, Dr. Onda will be the first Filipino to reach the deepest part of the ocean in the country. It will be held on March 22 to 28, 2021.

Among the five deep were in the Artic Ocean, Pacific Ocean, Indian Ocean, Southern Ocean, and Atlantic Ocean.
He was also first human to have reached the bottom of the Puerto Rico Trench, the Sunda Trench, the Molloy Deep, the Sirena Deep, the Horizon Deep, and the deepest point of the Southern Ocean, which lies in the southern end of the South Sandwich Trench. He had a total of eight dives to Challenger Deep, including the record for the deepest dive that happened in history on April 28, 2019 in the Mariana Trench.
Aside from his achievements in reaching deep surface, he was also recognized by the Guinness World Records. The Caladan Oceanic is a private company that is dedicated to the advancement of undersea technology and supports expeditions on the ocean to increase understanding underwater.
In this year, the expedition will be take place in Philippine Trench that is approximately 10,540 meters ( 34,100 ft) deep. The Philippines Trench is also called as Mindanao Deep, ot is located in the floor of the Philippine Sea of the western North Pacific Ocean bordering the east coast of the island of Mindanao.
Dr. Ondo and Victor Vescovo is on board in the DSSV Pressure Drop, the only marine vessel that is capable to launch the sea submersible DSV Limiting Factor and looking forward to the success into the journey.
