March: Women's Month
[Credits: Philippine Commission on Women] Theme of Women's Month

In Sofrino Española, the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) celebrates the Women's Month by sharing the rights of Womens, Violence Against Women and Children o VAWC. Through this, the women will be able to understand their rights as a woman and how they should empower themselves into abuse for their husband, live-in partners, or whoever hurts them physically, mentally and emotionally.

The MSWD wanted to spread awareness in all Barangays that included the Municipality of Sofronio Española. Currently, they have been into Abo-Abo, Isumbo, Panitian, at Labog and would continue to reach out to the other five barangays which are the Punang, Iraray, Pulot Interior, Pulot Center, at Pulot Shore before the last week of March.

The head of MSWD, Grace dela Torre said on March 19, Friday that they started visiting barangays from March 16 and hopefully would finish the other five.

Aside from the briefing, the MCWD has given P4,500 to every KALIPI Organization and the members decided to put the funds into the organization. The Kalipunan ng Liping Pilipina is a program under the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), it is an organized people organization that aims to strengthen and institutionalize local and national programs for women.

Aside from Sofrino Española, the other municipalities in Palawan and in the Philippines celebrates with the Women's Month.

This month is a way of giving importance to women's achievements and discussions of the empowerment of women , gender equality issues, concerns, commitments, and challenges. The local and national government celebrate this month through different activities.

We Make Change Work for Women
Juana Laban sa pandemya: Kaya!

It is the theme for this year, 2021. A positive way to respond amid this pandemic.

Women's Month is celebrated from national, local, international and organizations in the world. The appreciation of womens work to achieve and gender equality started in the United States in the 20th Century. It slowly spread in Asia including the Philippines.

In the country, there are legal bases for the annual national campaigns which are:

Proclamation No. 224 s.1988 which declares the first week of March each year as Women’s Week and March 8 as Women’s Rights and International Peace Day.

Proclamation No. 227 s. 1988 providing for the observance of the Month of March as
Women’s Role in History Month.

Republic Act (RA) 6949 s. 1990 declared March 8 of every year as National Women’s Day that was signed by former President Corazon Aquino.
