
The first community pantry was established in Manila and has been adapted by many Filipinos around the country. As it became known and inspiring, many have thought of making a community pantry within their areas. It has been made possible by an ordinary person, businessmen/businesswomen, celebrities, and government agencies or personnel.
In Palawan, the first community pantry opened in Barangay San Miguel, Puerto Princesa, and continued to be applied by the Palaweños. On the other hand, the Police personnel has extended their help to the community by putting a community pantry on mobile and on the table beside the road offering rice, vegetables, essentials, and groceries.
Meanwhile, the 1st Palawan Provincial Mobile Force Company (1st PPMFC) conducted a Barangaynihan Ayuda in coordination with private individuals and other stakeholders. There were a total of 400 families that have received food packs within the residents in Barangay Pulot Center, Iraray, and Punang. Every food pack contains rice, vegetables, and groceries. The Barangayanihan Ayuda was spearheaded by Police/ Luitenant Col. Joey Jonathan Bagayao. A Bayangayanihan Ayuda is made to give support help to the people that have been affected by the coronavirus in Palawan.
According to Patrolman Jenivie Catanduanes, this is program is a way to reach the poor families in the community and help them with their needs or necessities. He also said that it is important to extend and reach to give support and aid for the people who are currently affected by the coronavirus aside from enforcing the law, maintain peace and order.
“Bahagi ito ng pagtulong pa rin natin sa kanila, nandito lang po ang 1st PPMFC para umalalay sa mga mamamayan natin sa panahon ng pandemya. Nagpapasalamat kami sa mga donors at sa mga stakeholders natin,” Catanduanes said.
Last month on March 1, the 1st PPMFC also did a Medical Mission and a lecture on Family Planning on Indigenous People (IPs) on Barangay Pulot Interior. In an interview with palawan-news to P/Lt. Col. Eldie Bantal, he said that:
“Nagpapasalamat tayo sa mga stakeholders natin na laging tumutulong sa atin at isa sa mga pangarap natin at hangarin ay abutin ang mga katutubo ng ganitong klaseng mga serbisyo gaya ng pagbibigay ng gamot at pagbibigay ng kaalaman sa mga lider ng pamilya para mapagtibay ang isang pamilyang katutubo. Kailangang maramdaman nila na ang gobyerno ay malapit sa kanila,”.
“Isa pa, part din ito ng community retool natin, dahil alam natin na mas malaki ang chance ng recruitment sa mga ganito ng mga makakaliwang grupo sa mga komunidad na sobrang malayo, kaya nais nating maabot ang iba pang community sa ating mga malalayong lugar dito,” Bantal added.
